What is Retrograde (Vakra)?
A planet is retrograde (Vakra) when, seen from Earth, it appears to move backwards through the zodiac for a while. Traditionally it turns its themes towards review: Mercury retrograde, for example, is a time to double-check messages, travel and agreements.

What it means in practice
Retrograde periods favour revisiting, repairing and finishing over launching something new. When the planet turns forward again, things that stalled can move.
