Find your Hindu birthday this year
Many families celebrate birthdays by the birth star (Nakshatra) in the same solar month, the Tamil and Kerala custom, or by the Tithi in the same lunar month, common in North India. Both move every year. Enter your birth details and where you'll celebrate to find this year's dates.

Questions people ask
What is a Hindu birthday?
It is the day your birth star (Nakshatra) or birth Tithi returns in the same month of the traditional calendar. Because the Hindu calendar follows the Moon, the date moves each year.
Nakshatra or Tithi: which should I use?
Tamil and Kerala families usually follow the Nakshatra in the same solar month (for example Avittam in Aavani). Many North Indian families follow the Tithi in the same lunar month. Use whichever your family follows.
Why does the city matter?
The Nakshatra or Tithi is checked at local sunrise. Sunrise in London or Toronto is hours away from sunrise in India, so the date can differ.
What if the star comes twice in the month?
Occasionally it does. Traditions differ on which day to choose, so we show both and suggest you check with your family or temple priest.

When is my Hindu birthday (Nakshatra or Tithi) this year?
Your Hindu birthday is the day your birth Nakshatra (lunar mansion) or birth Tithi (lunar day) comes round again in your birth month. Tamil and Kerala families usually celebrate the Nakshatra in the solar birth month; many North Indian families use the Tithi in the lunar birth month. Both move against the Western calendar every year, so use the Hindu birthday finder.
