The twelve houses: areas of life, not boxes

What is the difference between a planet and a house?

A planet supplies a traditional theme; a house describes an area of life where that theme is interpreted. Thinking about the houses through ordinary circumstances makes them easier to remember than a list of technical keywords.

Everyday anchors

The fourth house is commonly connected with home and inner foundations, the seventh with partnerships, and the tenth with work and public responsibilities. These categories overlap in real life: a move can affect a relationship and a career at the same time.

Connect the idea to chart reading

For the whole-sign convention used in our general Moon-sign readings, the reference sign is the first house, the next zodiac sign is the second and the count continues through twelve. As an illustrative exercise, take Leo as the reference: Virgo is second, Libra third and Cancer twelfth. This does not mean a person with Leo Moon necessarily has Leo Lagna. Write the reference above your practice chart. A house number is useful only when you know what it was counted from.

Use a consistent reference

Natal houses are normally read from an approved Lagna convention. General Rashi transits count houses from the birth Moon sign. A planet described as eighth from the Moon is not necessarily in the natal eighth house.

Be specific without being rigid

When studying career, consider employees, job seekers, freelancers and business owners separately. The same traditional house theme can meet different circumstances. A useful explanation makes room for the person’s actual situation.

Rooms in a lived-in house

A home contains different rooms, but everyday life crosses their boundaries. Work done at the kitchen table can affect finances, family time and rest. Houses in astrology organise questions in a similar way; they are not sealed containers. A single life event can involve several areas. An empty house is like a room with no visitor at that moment: it has not disappeared from the building.

Another situation to explore

Someone considering immigration may also be thinking about employment, partnership, housing and belonging. A useful conversation names each concern separately. The legal route requires qualified information; income needs a budget; relationships need discussion. An interpretation that mentions travel while overlooking those linked responsibilities has missed much of the actual question.

Try this in your own life

Choose one decision. Which life areas does it touch, and whose needs are involved? Name the practical constraint in each area before looking for an astrological theme.

Traditional astrology offers an interpretive lens. It does not establish a fixed future or replace professional advice.

Ask Baba

I know the basics. How do I read my own birth chart, step by step?

Read your chart in layers. Check the birth data, find the Lagna (Ascendant) and number the houses from it, place each planet by sign and house, see where each house's ruler sits, then add timing through the Dasha (planetary period) and transits from your Moon. Work one house at a time and note what you find before interpreting.

What is the Ascendant (Lagna), and why does birth time matter?

The Ascendant, or Lagna, is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment and place of your birth. It becomes your 1st house and fixes the order of all twelve houses. Because a new sign rises roughly every two hours on average, a birth time out by even 15–30 minutes can change the Lagna if you were born near a boundary.

What is the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?

The biggest difference is the zodiac. Vedic astrology (Jyotish) uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the stars, while most Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. The two are now about 24°14′ apart, so your Vedic sign is usually one sign behind your Western one. Vedic astrology also leans on the Moon sign, Nakshatras and Dasha periods.

How accurate is astrology? Is it scientific?

Astrology's calculations are accurate; its predictions are not scientifically established. Planetary positions can be computed precisely, and ChiChakra checks its dates against the Swiss Ephemeris. Reading those positions as forecasts for your life is a tradition, not a tested science. We offer it as a lens for reflection and timing, and we're open about that.
