Life events and good timing

Which days are inauspicious this month (Chandrashtama, Amavasya)?

Published 01-11-2026 · · How we answer

Short answer

Two kinds of day are traditionally handled with care: your Chandrashtama days, about 2 to 2.5 days each month when the Moon is in the 8th sign from your Moon sign, and Amavasya (new Moon), which is shared by everyone. Neither makes a day bad; tradition simply avoids big starts then. Check your dates in the Chandrashtama tool and Panchangam.

How ChiChakra reads this

Chandrashtama is personal: it depends on your Moon sign, so two people in one family can have different days. Amavasya is a lunar phase, so its date depends on your city's time zone. ChiChakra also shows Rahu Kalam, a daily window traditionally avoided for new starts.

Using these days well

On Chandrashtama, keep plans light, avoid launches or major signings, and expect to feel a little more tired or sensitive.

Amavasya is not only cautious: many families use it to remember ancestors (Tarpanam), and Diwali's Lakshmi Puja on 8 November 2026 falls on an Amavasya.

Keep work, school and medical appointments as usual on both. This month, Mercury is also retrograde until 13 November and Venus until 14 November 2026.
