When should I travel or start a long journey?

Published 01-11-2026 · · How we answer

Short answer

Begin a long journey when tickets, documents and rest line up; if you can choose the day, avoid your Chandrashtama days and leave home outside Rahu Kalam. Many families also prefer not to set off on an eclipse day. Mercury, linked with travel, is retrograde until 13 November 2026, so double-check bookings, connections and documents.

How ChiChakra reads this

Tradition times a journey by the moment you leave home, not the flight time. ChiChakra gives Rahu Kalam for your town from local sunrise and sunset, plus your Chandrashtama dates. A birth chart would add the 3rd, 9th and 12th houses, for short trips, long journeys and foreign travel.

Planning your departure

Even with a fixed flight, you can usually choose when to step out of the front door. Check that time against Rahu Kalam.

The 2027 eclipses fall on 6 February, 20 February, 18 July and 2 August; visibility varies by place.

Check passport validity, visas and entry rules with official sources well ahead. Don't rush or skip sleep to catch a window; a calm departure is the point.
