What the rest of the world asks

How do I use astrology for journaling or self-reflection?

Published 01-11-2026 · · How we answer

Short answer

Journal first, interpret second. Each day, note the date, the Moon's sign or Nakshatra and how you felt in a line or two; once a month, look back for patterns, such as how your Chandrashtama days, new and full Moons or Mercury retrograde actually went. Within a few months your own notes become the most personal astrology you have.

How ChiChakra reads this

ChiChakra frames astrology as planetary cycles set against lived patterns. Fast cycles suit journaling best: the Moon changes sign about every 2.25 days and Mercury turns retrograde 3–4 times a year. Slow cycles, such as Saturn's 7.5-year Sade Sati or Jupiter's year or so in each sign, are better reviewed as chapters.

A simple routine

Daily: one line on mood, energy and anything notable, plus the day's tithi or Nakshatra from the Panchangam.

Monthly: mark your Chandrashtama days and Amavasya in advance, then compare. Did those days really feel heavier, or not?

Write about ordinary days too, not just dramatic ones, so a few striking coincidences do not skew the picture. Note sleep, workload and conversations as well; they often explain more than the sky does.

Good to know

If journaling starts to make you anxious rather than clearer, take a break. A built-in pattern journal is planned; a notebook works perfectly well for now.
