Planet periods, doshas and remedies

What is Gochara, and why do predictions use my Moon sign?

Published 01-11-2026 · · How we answer

Short answer

Gochara (transit) means reading where the planets are moving now, counted from your birth Moon sign. Predictions use the Moon sign because Vedic astrology treats the Moon as the mind, so transits from it describe how a period feels, and it needs no birth time. For example, Saturn in Meena is 12th from Mesha, which is why Mesha is in Sade Sati.

How ChiChakra reads this

We find your Moon sign in the sidereal zodiac using Lahiri ayanamsa (the offset from the Western zodiac, about 24°14′ in November 2026). That is why your Vedic sign is usually one sign behind your Western Sun sign for most of each month. Then we count each planet's current sign from yours, with your Moon sign as house 1.

How to read your own Gochara

Count forward from your Moon sign to where each slow planet sits. As of November 2026: Saturn in Meena, Jupiter in Simha (since 31 Oct 2026), Rahu in Kumbha and Ketu in Simha until 5 Dec 2026.

Focus on the slow movers. Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu–Ketu set the climate for months or years; the Moon's monthly round colours just a few days, as with Chandrashtama.

Read the house, then the planet: Jupiter in your 5th points to children, study and creativity; Saturn in your 10th to work and responsibility.

Good to know

Moon-sign Gochara is shared by everyone born under that sign. Your Lagna (ascendant) and Dasha add the personal layer, and personal readings are coming.
